Rematch is back with their sophomore EP, Do It All Again. Following the release of their debut EP, Broken Steps, in 2018, the band created a cohesive six track EP while in Wales. With heavy punk influences, the EP features catchy choruses and intricate guitar riffs. The band talked with us about the new release.

Thanks for finding the time to talk with us! Congratulations on your newest album, Do It All Again. Can you tell us about the backstory of the album artwork?

Rematch: “Thank you! We are really excited about this release. I had talked to my friend who does a lot of art for the band (Logan Gray) and we were trying to figure out something that would tie in with the title. So we talked about maybe a time machine? But then we talked and we couldn't decide what a time machine would look like and be able to be recognized as a time machine. So, we kinda thought maybe a hand warping with a broken pocket watch would look cool.”

What was it like to get back into the studio, especially since your previous releases were in 2018?

R: “Working on Do It All Again was amazing. We went to Wales to record with Seb Barlow (Neck Deep) and Sammy Clifford (WSTR) and we just had an amazing time and made some lifelong friends. We went out there with a ton of ideas and pieces of songs, and Seb and Sammy really brought them to life.”

Each song on the album is packed with heavy guitar. What was the inspiration behind the main riff of Live a Little?“

R: “We really just wanted to write a song that would just be simple but fun to listen to. I was playing around with an electronic loop and that chuggy guitar just kind of popped in. I take a lot of influence from bands like New Found Glory, Hit The Lights, and Forever the Sickest Kids.”

Which song off of the new album are you most excited to play live? Why?

R: “Personally, I'm really excited to play Hello Heartache. There are a ton of fun guitar riffs and the chorus is so catchy to me!”

How has the dynamic of the band changed throughout the years, both from a sonic and lyrical perspective?

R: “I feel like lyrically it is pretty much the same kind of vibe compared to our first EP. Musically there was a lot more writing and collaborating together and the songs were a bit more mature than our first EP, I think!”

As you’ve been featured in Spotify-curated playlists, how does it feel to be creating music that resonates with so many pop punk fans?

R: “Honestly, the response to Do It All Again has been pretty overwhelming. Writing songs with a bunch of friends and seeing so many people relate to them and love them is why we do this!”

Are there any new projects in the works following the lifting of social distancing? Can we expect some live shows soon?

R: “We are currently writing and patiently waiting to be able to play shows and tour. Just waiting for them to tell us it’s safe to get back out there!”
