NJ-based trio Pollyanna is back with “I Promise, I’m Lying”, and it’s the perfect addition of pop-infused, upbeat goodness to the band’s catalogue.
While the lyrical content of the song is about feeling insecure in a relationship, the instrumentals directly contradict that; their complexity and positivity show that the band isn’t afraid to make light of their own material and approach it from all sides.
It’s this irony that makes the track so versatile and keeps listeners interested in the subject matter. Lyrics about insecurity and jealousy often don’t ring true to audiences unless they feel they can relate to it, and “I Promise, I’m Lying” blends these heavy themes with unavoidable groove and creativity.
The eccentric, Paramore-like music video gives the tune another avenue through which to shine, and it’s just another example of Pollyanna’s ability to coordinate their sounds with their visuals. With splashes of bright color and in-your-face angles, the confidence of the band is growing, and their fan base is growing, too.
Pollyanna hits the road on Dec. 1st in Florida, and their upcoming shows are sure to show their growth and newfound style.
